Parkland School Division Administrative Appointments 

 

Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools Tim Monds is pleased to announce the following administrative appointments for the 2011-2012 school year. “After careful consideration, these candidates were selected for Principalships based on their strong leadership qualities, their inspiring and energetic commitment to public education and their abilities to foster positive working relationships with students, staff and parents. We continue to build an amazing Lead Team of passionate educators who will assist with Alberta Education’s mandate to better meet the needs of today’s students through shifting teacher practice and transforming education,” states Mr. Monds.

Shaye Patras
Principal, Blueberry School

Shaye Patras, Principal, Blueberry School

With the retirement of long time Principal, Bob Bruce, Shaye Patras is honored to fulfill the Principalship duties at Blueberry School.

Shaye began his career with Parkland in 2002, working as a teacher at Woodhaven. He was seconded to Alberta Education for the 2005-2006 school year and then transferred to Greystone Centennial Middle School for the 2006-2007 school year. In September 2007, Shaye joined the Learning Services Department as a Curriculum Facilitator, providing direction and leadership to teachers and administrators in areas such as curriculum implementation, professional development and assessment. In 2008 Shaye moved to Seba Beach School as Principal. Shaye has been actively involved in several different initiatives during his tenure with Parkland School Division, such as the Strategic Leadership Initiative and Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Leadership: Great Leaders, Great Teams, Great Results and Leading at the Speed of Trust”

Shaye graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Alberta. In 2010, Shaye earned a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership.

"As I move onto a new challenge, I will miss the staff, students and parents of Seba Beach greatly. I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with them over the past three years. I am extremely excited to be able to join the Blueberry learning community and to continue the fantastic work that Blueberry School has undertaken in supporting student learning and achievement."

Mike Hubick
Principal, Forest Green School & Connections for Learning

Mike Hubick, Principal, Forest Green School & Connections for Learning

As current Principal George Couros leaves to his new position as Division Principal, Mike Hubick is looking forward to assuming the role of Principal at Forest Green School and Connections for Learning.

Mike’s career started as a French Immersion teacher in 1990 in Swift Current. In 1996 he began his journey in administration as the Principal of Vanguard School (K-12) in Swift Current, followed in 1999 with a Principalship at Fox Creek School. In 2001, Mike joined the ranks of Parkland School Division, as Principal of Blueberry School and then École Broxton Park School in 2004. Mike’s desire to learn and grow as an administrator has been demonstrated time and time again through his ongoing participation in Stephen Covey training and active roles in various committees.

Mike graduated with distinction from the Baccelauré en Education Française program at the University of Regina in 1990 and in 1998 completed his Master of Arts in Education – Educational Leadership from the San Diego State University.

"I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to work with the Ecole Broxton Park School community for these past 7 years. I am looking forward to continuing my learning as I begin my work with another interesting combination of exciting programs offered through Connections for Learning and Forest Green School. Finding creative ways of serving the diverse learning needs of students is a passion area for me that I know will be fulfilled in my new and exciting assignment."

Aileen Peterson
Principal, Wabamun School

Aileen Peterson, Principal, Wabamun School

Aileen Peterson, currently the Principal at Keephills School, will join the staff at Wabamun School as their new instructional leader.

Aileen’s teaching career started in 1996 at the Siksika Department of Education. Throughout the years Aileen has taught a variety of grade levels and subject areas with a number of school divisions throughout Alberta. Peterson arrived in Parkland from the Ft. McMurray Public School District in 2008 when she accepted the Principalship at Keephills School. During her three years at Keephills, she has developed and maintained strong relationships with all stakeholders including students, parents, and staff.

As a lifelong learner, Peterson is currently pursuing her Masters of Education with the University of Calgary, with a specialization in Educational Leadership and Administration. She also holds two bachelor degrees from the University of Lethbridge: one in Arts - majoring in General Humanities, the other Education – majoring in French Language. Aileen actively engages in professional development activities and initiatives, the most recent being a part of the Assessment Working Group that is developing a report card that is in keeping with Alberta Education’s emphasis on curricular outcomes and competencies.

“I am pleased and excited about the new opportunity to serve Wabamun School as Principal. I look forward to learning with the students, staff and community as we continue to provide a progressive, positive, engaging learning environment for all,” says Peterson.

Karen Stride-Goudie
Principal, Muir Lake School

Karen Stride-Goudie, Principal, Muir Lake School

Karen Stride-Goudie, currently the Assistant Principal at Blueberry School, has accepted the Principalship of Muir Lake School.

Karen’s teaching career began in Newfoundland in 1985 as an Early Years teacher. In 1997 she relocated to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories which saw her in numerous capacities, from teacher to District Math Coordinator to Assistant Principal and Principal of grades K-8. Karen joined Parkland School Division in 2006 as the Assistant Principal at Blueberry School. Karen is an educational leader with a passion to explore, develop and celebrate the unique talents and abilities of all learners.

Karen earned her a Christian Education/Theology Diploma in 1985, followed by a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degree in 1995. She earned her Master of Education degree in 2006, majoring in Education Curriculum / Educational Leadership. She continues to learn and grow, actively participating in professional development initiatives such as Stephen Covey training, Instructional Coaching and Critical Thinking, to name a few.

“I am very pleased and honored to join the Muir Lake School community as Principal and look forward to collaborating with staff and parents,” says Stride-Goudie. “I am enthusiastic about working together on current trends in education focusing on 21 Century learners, critical thinking, and ethical citizenship.”

Randy Hetherington
Principal, École Broxton Park School

Randy Hetherington, Principal, École Broxton Park School

Randy Hetherington will join the Parkland School Division team as Principal of École Broxton Park School.

Randy began his career in 1985 with the Fort McMurray Public School District teaching a variety of grades and subjects. In 1991 he accepted a position with Prince Rupert Secondary School and along with teaching, was the Special Needs Department Head and Athletic Director. From Prince Rupert to Onoway in 1999, Randy has been in administrator roles since, both as an Assistant Principal and most recently as Principal at Onoway Junior/Senior High School.

Randy earned his Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria in 1985, followed by a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Northern British Columbia in 2003. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate – Educational Leadership at the University of Alberta.

“Broxton Park School provides a unique opportunity for me to serve a diverse and talented community of students, staff, and parents as we work to maximize student achievement during an exciting and challenging time for public education in Alberta,” states Hetherington on his new appointment.

Shauna Boyce
Principal, Memorial Composite High School

Shauna Boyce, Principal, Memorial Composite High School

Shauna Boyce has been appointed Principal, Memorial Composite High School after serving as both an Assistant Principal from 2004 – 2008 followed by Acting Principal since October, 2008.

Shauna began her teaching career in Parkland School Division in 1990 at Spruce Grove Composite High School as a Mathematics teacher and Department Head. From 1998 to 2002 she was seconded to Alberta Education as an Examination Manager (Mathematics 30 Applied). Upon her return, she transferred to Memorial Composite High School where she has thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and opportunities – including the construction and move into the beautiful new facility.

Shauna earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 1990 followed by a Masters of Secondary Education in 2003. She has been involved in numerous professional initiatives at the school, division and provincial level. She has completed several Franklin Covey leadership programs, has been a mentor in the Great Beginnings program for beginning teachers, and most recently has been appointed a member of Parkland’s Future Planning Team.

“I am extremely honoured and thankful for the opportunity to continue to work with the committed and dedicated staff, students and parents of Memorial Composite High School and Parkland School Division. Memorial’s pillars of learning, caring and respect support our efforts to create success for all students as “the torch held high” continues to light our journey towards excellence.
