The Board of Trustees is pleased to provide you with the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday March 1, 2011. The adopted minutes will be available on our website following the next Regular Board meeting.
Upcoming Trustee Activities:
- Some members of the Board of Trustees will be attending Alberta School Boards Association Conference in Calgary, March 15-17, 2011. This conference will focus on “Rules, Risks and Relationships”.
- The Board of Trustees will be hosting three evening meetings with our Municipal Partners: Parkland County, Town of Stony Plain and the City of Spruce Grove.
- The Board of Trustees will be attending a meeting hosted by Trustees from Evergreen School Division.
- Board of Trustees and Senior Administration will be hosting Phase II of the System Review.
- March 7 – Memorial Composite High School – 7-8:30pm
- March 8 – Greystone Centennial Middle School – 7-8:30pm
- March 22 – Seba Beach School – 7-8:30pm
Updates:
- The Board received a letter from Parkland Teachers ATA, thanking them for inviting local President, Paul McMann, to participate in the Education Planning Session held in January 2011.
- The Board received a thank you letter from a former Parkland School Division student who received a $500 Citizenship Scholarship.
- Information was shared on an upcoming Military Exercise activity being held in Stony Plain March 4-6.
- Chair Gilchrist offered congratulations on behalf of the Board to Associate Superintendent Ben Beil on his upcoming retirement.
- First Year Teacher, Catherine Savard, has been nominated to represent Parkland School Division for the Alberta School Board Association’s Edwin Parr Award.
- Trustees approved the Division School Calendar for the 2011-2012 School Year. They also approved in principle the School Calendars for 2012-2013 and 2013-2014.
- Fees and Allowances for 2011-2012 were approved by the Trustees.
- Superintendent Monds provided an update on the System Review. A second round of Open Houses is scheduled for March 7, March 8 and March 22. This will be an opportunity to share updated information, themes and solutions for addressing immediate space issues as well as identify issues that will require long term solutions with stakeholders.
- The Board of Trustees received as information a Communication Plan that provided an overview of the Communication Activities, a work plan for future initiatives and an update regarding the public website. Trustees will be reviewing the plan.
Reports:
- Accepted the Financial Report ending January 31, 2011.
- Received a 2012 Alberta Winter Games Report.
- Received a Discipline Hearing Report highlighting the success of the process.
- Received reports on meetings with Alberta School Board Association, Public School Board Association of Alberta and Linkages.
- Received as information minutes from the Education Committee Meeting.
The next regular Board meeting will be held April 5, 2011 at 7pm at the Centre for Education
