The Board of Trustees is pleased to provide you with the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday November 8, 2011. The adopted minutes are also available here.

Upcoming Trustee Activities: 

• Trustees will be attending various Remembrance Day Ceremonies being held throughout schools in Parkland School Division.
• Trustees have been invited to attend a “SMART Showcase Open House” at Millgrove School that will showcase the SMART products and teachers sharing their firsthand experiences.
• Trustees will be attending the Fall Annual General Meeting for the Alberta School Board’s Association to be held November 20-22 in Edmonton.
• Trustees are hosting a by-invitation Stakeholder Consultation on November 17, 2011 at Brookwood School. Invitations are being sent to stakeholders to view a presentation and offer input to Trustees on the challenges of increasing student numbers and the lack of classroom space in Spruce Grove. The presentation is posted under System Review Phase 3. A video of the presentation of November 17th will be posted following the Stakeholder Consultation. Please see our website for information on how you can provide comments and suggestions to the Trustees.

Updates:

• Chair Gilchrist provided a verbal Board Chair’s report:
  • Innovative Learning Environments Conference held October 11-12, 2011 that he attended with Superintendent Monds.
  • Letter received from Alberta Minister of Education requesting feedback to the New Education Act.
• Superintendent Monds offered his regrets at not being in attendance as he is currently in Japan participating in an educational and cultural exchange. A written report was given. It focused on student successes and various projects underway in Parkland School Division.  
• Approval was given to schedule an extra meeting for the Student Advisory Committee. This meeting is tentatively planned for Tuesday February 14, 2012.
• Trustees held a discussion on the Three Year Capital Plan and the upcoming Stakeholder Consultation. Hugh Skinner provided a presentation on the predicted student growth in Spruce Grove.Trustee Cameron gave notice of motion that at the Board of Trustee Regular meeting on November 29, 2011 a decision will be made relating to the accommodation of kindergarten students in Spruce Grove and the proposed new school configuration in Spruce Grove.

• Reports:

  • Final Budget report for 2011-2012 was approved.
  • Accepted and ratified the International Union of Operating Engineers Memorandum of Agreement.
  • Accepted and ratified the Central Alberta Association of School Employees Memorandum of Agreement.
  • Received as information the following reports:
    • Vandalism report for 2010-2011
    • Provincial Achievement Tests and Grade 12 Diploma Examination Results report
    • Staffing report for 2010-2011
    • Early Child Development Mapping Initiative
  • Received as information minutes from various Committees including:
  • Student Advisory Committee
  • Teacher Board Advisory Committee
  • Audit Committee
  • PSD Tomorrow Committee
  • Council of School Councils Committee
