Board Meeting Highlights - April 5, 2011

The Board of Trustees is pleased to provide you with the highlights of our recent Board meeting held on Tuesday April 05, 2011. The adopted minutes will be available on the PSD website following the next Regular Board meeting.

Upcoming Trustee Activities

• Some members of the Board of Trustees will be attending Alberta School Councils’ Association Conference, April 15-16, to be held in Edmonton.
• The Board of Trustees along with Senior Administration will attending a workshop with a First Nation Elder at the Enoch Reserve as part of the next Education Committee meeting.
• Board of Trustees and Senior Executive will be attending Parkland School Division’s Long Service Awards, celebrating 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years of service with staff.

Updates

• The Board received a letter from Alberta Education, thanking the Board for Parkland School Division’s 2010-2013 Three Year Plan and the 2009-2010 Annual Education Results Report.
• The Board of Trustees passed a resolution that would allow for the grandfathering of students and siblings, where boundary changes impacted the designated school.

• The Board approved a number of boundary changes effective for the 2011-2012 school year. These were:

1. Spruce Grove Rural North – middle school (Grades 5-9) from Woodhaven Middle School to Greystone Centennial Middle School.
2. Spruce Grove Rural South (K-9) from Brookwood School and Greystone Centennial Middle School to Graminia School.
3. Stony Plain Rural North from Stony Plain Central School to Blueberry School.
4. Stony Plain Rural North from High park School to Blueberry School.
5. Stony Plain Rural North from High park School to Muir Lake School.

• The Board of Trustees approved a motion to dissolve the Communication Committee as the Committee felt that it was no longer necessary. Committee members expressed a high level of satisfaction with communication in Parkland School Division.

Reports

• Accepted the Second Quarter Financial Report ending February 28, 2011.
• Accepted the 2005-2006 to 2009-2010 Financial Report Profile
• Received as information minutes from various Committees including:
  • Teacher/Board Advisory Committee
  • Student Advisory Committee
  • Council of School Councils Committee
  • Benefits Committee
  • Communication Committee
  • Audit Committee

The next regular Board meeting will be held May 3, 2011 at 7pm at the Centre for Education
