Parkland School Division Announces New Director of Communications

Brian Leadbetter - Director of Communications

Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools, Tim Monds is proud to announce that Brian Leadbetter has been appointed Director of Communications effective January 23, 2012.

As Director, Mr. Leadbetter will be responsible for the overall communications strategy and planning activities for Parkland School Division, including all educational partnership and community relations activities. He will advise and counsel senior management and the Board of Trustees on all communications situations providing leadership in both internal and external communications.

“Brian’s extensive experience in corporate communications, media relations, brand development, government and community relations and issues management will serve us well. Our Board is committed to open and transparent communication, to maintaining professional and productive relationships with diverse stakeholder groups and to continued community engagement. We welcome Brian’s expertise as we continue to collaborate, create and learn in Parkland School Division,” states Superintendent Monds.

Mr. Leadbetter is joining PSD from his most recent position as Director of Communications for the Official Opposition of Alberta at the Legislative Assembly. Prior to that, he held a number of senior management positions advising on a wide range of communications and government relations activities. These included the role of Director of Government and Community Relations with Northlands and Senior Communications Advisor to City Council and the Office of the Mayor with the City of Edmonton. In addition to his remarkable government relations, public affairs and senior policy experience in eastern Canada, Mr. Leadbetter served as the Public Affairs Coordinator for the South Slave Divisional Educational Council in the Northwest Territories from 2002-2006.

Mr. Leadbetter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1995 and went on to complete a Certificate of Honors in 1997. His Master of Arts degree (Political Science and Public Administration) was attained in 1999 at Dalhousie University in Halifax as well.

In reflecting on his appointment, Brian comments, “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the team as Director of Communications for Parkland School Division. PSD is known for excellence in education, and I look forward to working with all stakeholders as we continue to share the positive stories of student and Division success.”
