Last year, when Erik Jegelka was in Grade 9 at Greystone Centennial School, Erik’s teacher invited the class to enter an Alcohol and Drug Awareness Essay Writing Contest sponsored by the Loyal Order of Moose. The purpose of the contest was to inspire students across Alberta to research the pitfalls of drug abuse. The teacher guided the students through a series of critical thinking lessons as they researched and then wrote their essays. This summer, Erik learned that he had won first prize! As the contest winner, Erik won $600 for himself and $600 for Greystone as well.
