Parkland School Division (PSD) is pleased to celebrate the significant achievement by the Memorial Composite High School’s Mixed and Men’s Ensembles who were named provincial champions in the Senior High School Chorus and Ensemble categories respectively, at this week’s Alberta Provincial Choral Festival.
“This is an incredible honour for the Memorial Composite ensembles to be named provincial champions,” said PSD Superintendent, Tim Monds. “We’re very proud of our students and staff who are members of the provincial champion ensembles. Their performances and contributions represented our Division proudly on the provincial stage,” Monds added.
This is the twentieth year of the Choral program at Memorial Composite and the program has been directed by Daryl Weisenburger for the past ten years. This year, Weisenburger was assisted by Mona Holton and Tomas Lindbeck in directing over 115 choral students. The program consists of seven distinct choirs and ensembles, and although choirs have been honoured with provincial championships in the past, this is the first year they have taken both high school categories.
Parkland School Division is committed to celebrating arts and music programming. Throughout the year, PSD hosts several celebrations of student achievement including the Choral Music Celebration, Speech Arts Festival, Visual Arts Celebrations and WordWorks Publication. Every spring, early years, middle years, and senior high choirs from across Parkland School Division meet to share in a celebration of choral music at its Choral Music Celebration.
