Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools Tim Monds is pleased to announce the following administrative appointments for the 2011-2012 school year. “Outstanding school leadership is a cornerstone of transforming teaching and learning for our students. Shawn Ram
Principal, Seba Beach School

Shawn Ram, Principal, Seba Beach School

As current Principal, Shaye Patras, leaves to his newly assigned Principal position at Blueberry School, Shawn Ram is honored to take the helm as Principal of Seba Beach School for 2011-2012.

Shawn graduated from the University of Alberta in 1999 with a Bachelor of Education degree, with a major in Biological Sciences and minor in Physical Education. Shawn’s commitment to lifelong learning will see him pursue his post graduate work through the University of Alberta.

Prior to Shawn joining the Parkland School Division team in 2008, he held a teaching / leadership role with Don Bosco Academy from 2001-2008. During this time and most currently in his combined position at Parkland School Division’s Brightbank Academy/Connections for Learning and Forest Green School, his roles ranged from coordinating appropriate educational programming for students, development of curriculum resources, IPP development and teaching early years special education to providing professional development to an entire school staff.

Shawn has been actively involved in different initiatives during his tenure with Parkland School Division, such as the Exploring Leadership program. Shawn takes great pride in his decision making ability and will show strong leadership in the areas of professional development, school improvement and curriculum. He strongly believes that open communication between all the stakeholders in a school community is vital to the success for students.

“I am thrilled and excited as I move into a new position and experience within Parkland School Division,” states Ram. “I will miss the students and staff at Connections for Learning and Forest Green and would like to thank them for the wonderful experiences we have had. I cherish the relationships that we have formed. I am extremely excited to join the learning community at Seba Beach and look forward to building new connections, relationships and leaders. I am looking forward to working in “The Friendliest School on the Planet,” and learning together about the current trends in education, focusing on 21st Century learners.”.

Les Worthington
Principal, Entwistle School

Les Worthington, Principal, Entwistle School

Les Worthington has enthusiastically accepted the Principalship at Entwistle School as current Principal David Bridgeman pursues his passion for teaching Social Studies at Memorial Composite High School.

In 2000, Les graduated from Concordia University College with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in History followed by a Bachelor of Education (after degree) in 2003. In 2007 he earned his Master’s degree in Educational Studies: Leadership and School Improvement from the University of Alberta.

Les’ teaching career started in 2003 with the Fort Vermilion School Division followed in 2008 teaching with the Grande Yellowhead Regional Division. He joined Parkland School Division’s team in September 2010 teaching at Entwistle School. Les’ experience teaching multiple grade levels has provided him with a well-rounded understanding of the skill sets students require to be successful and how important it is for students to be active learners in their education.

Les has worked collaboratively as a grade level team member, was instrumental in introducing unique programming in middle years and has shown strong commitment to engaging learners. To strengthen his administrative focus, Les has participated in both the Exploring Leadership and Aspiring Leaders programs and will surely be an asset at Parkland’s leadership table.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue my career at Entwistle School in my new role as Principal,” states Worthington. “Entwistle School has a strong sense of community that has been created by the students, staff and parents. I look forward to the upcoming year as we provide our students with unique and valuable learning opportunities and help develop our students into lifelong learners and responsible citizens.”
