Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools Tim Monds is pleased to announce the following Assistant Principal appointments for the 2011-2012 school year.

Bryn Spence
Assistant Principal - École Broxton Park School

Bryn Spence, Assistant Principal - École Broxton Park School

Bryn Spence, currently the Assistant Principal at High Park School, has recently accepted the position of Assistant Principal at École Broxton Park School.

Bryn began his teaching career with Parkland in September 2005, teaching regular and Special Education core subjects to Grades 3-6 at Entwistle School. In September 2008, Bryn transferred to High Park School where he took on the role of Special Education Coordinator and in September 2009, Bryn enthusiastically accepted the position of Assistant Principal at High Park School. In this leadership position he has developed an understanding for the importance of team collaboration and collaborative decision making.

Bryn earned his Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta in 2005. Lifelong learning is a critical component of Bryn’s life. He has recently initiated Masters coursework in Special Education. His experiences are not limited to teaching students. He’s an active presenter of Understanding by Design, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Performance Based Assessment workshops to Parkland School Division staff.

“I am very excited to join the École Broxton Park School community and look forward to building relationships with the students, staff and parents of the school,” says Spence. “I believe strongly in fostering creativity and supporting the 21st century learner in shaping a vision of tomorrow. I am passionate about working with stakeholders to meet the needs of all students and empowering teachers at providing the best learning environment where students can continually grow together and achieve success. I will miss the High Park Community and will look fondly on the time that I spent there. Thank you to all for the great memories and opportunities to learn. ”

Corey Haley
Assistant Principal – École Broxton Park School

Corey Haley, Assistant Principal – École Broxton Park School

Superintendent of Schools Tim Monds is pleased to welcome Corey Haley back to Parkland School Division as Assistant Principal at École Broxton Park School.

Corey is a graduate from the French Immersion program at Spruce Grove Composite High School. He earned a Baccalauréat-es-Éducation from the University of Alberta in 2003 and in 2008, a Masters in Education (Leadership Studies) from the University of Victoria.

Corey’s teaching career began in January 2004, at École St. Marguerite d’Youville, teaching French Immersion, grades 7-12. He joined the teaching team at Spruce Grove Composite High School in September 2004, as a grade 10-12 French Immersion and English teacher. In the same year, Corey was nominated for an Edwin Parr outstanding first year teacher award. Corey has been a mentor for student teachers from the U of A, coordinator of student exchanges to Quebec, president of a Local French Immersion Specialists Association, to name a few. Building relationships, belief in innovative classrooms and student centered education are skills Corey will bring to École Broxton Park School and the Leadership Team.

“I am very happy to return to Parkland, the school division where I was once a student,” states Corey. “I look forward to joining the École Broxton Park School learning community and being a part of such a wonderful and diverse school. Je suis très content de retourner à Parkland, là où j’étais étudiant. J’ai hâte à travailler avec les étudiants, familles et professeurs à l’École Broxton Park et de devenir membre de leur communauté d’apprentissage. C’est mon grand plaisir de travailler à une école diverse et où il y a tellement de talent.

Brenda Stumbur
Assistant Principal – Millgrove School

Brenda Stumbur, Assistant Principal – Millgrove School

Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools is pleased to welcome Brenda Stumbur to the Leadership Team in her new role of Assistant Principal at Millgrove School where she is currently a teacher.

Ms. Stumbur started her teaching career in 1986 in the Northland School Division. She joined Parkland School Division in 1987 working with Early Years students at Entwistle School, Forest Green School and Millgrove School. In 2008, Brenda received an Excellence in Teaching award from Alberta Education.

Brenda earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta as well as an Early Childhood Education Diploma. Brenda’s passion for lifelong learning and creating positive learning environments for students and staff has lead her to be very involved in her school community. As a Balanced Literary Facilitator and a project leader in the school’s AISI projects, Brenda has used her skills and knowledge to engage support staff to meet the diverse needs of students and to engage students to become problem solvers, critical thinkers and strong citizens.

“I am excited by the opportunity for continuous learning and for playing another role in the team approach at Millgrove. I look forward to working with the wonderful staff and amazing students there,” says Ms. Stumbur.

Shauna Wray
Assistant Principal – High Park School

Shauna Wray, Assistant Principal – High Park School

Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools is pleased to welcome Shauna Wray to the Leadership Team in her new role of Assistant Principal at High Park School.

Ms. Wray earned her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 1985.

Shauna began working for Parkland School Division in 1985 teaching at Graminia School. In 1989, Shauna transferred to Kitaskinaw School and taught Grades 1, 2 and 5 and in 1993, starting teaching at Duffield School where she continues to teach. In 2003, Shauna was nominated for an Excellence in Teaching award. Shauna is trained in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, she has been a Team Leader for elementary Division meetings and has been the Special Education Key Contact Coordinator for Duffield School since 2009, working with parents, students and staff, striving to meet the diverse needs of students. Shauna has participated in several learning communities and the Leadership initiative offered at Division office.

“I will miss the staff, students and parents of Duffield School very much. I have been so fortunate to work with this community for the past 18 years. As I look forward, I am very excited and honored to become the Assistant Principal at High Park School. I am extremely eager to be able to join this new school community and to become a part of the incredible work that occurs every day with staff, students and their families,” says Ms. Wray.

Treena Neumann
Assistant Principal – Woodhaven Middle School

Treena Neumann, Assistant Principal – Woodhaven Middle School

Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools is pleased to welcome Treena Neumann to the Leadership Team in her new role of Assistant Principal at Woodhaven Middle School where she is presently teaching.

Ms. Neumann’s teaching career began in 2004, working with various school divisions in Alberta, with a focus on Middle Years. Treena started with Parkland School Division in 2006 at Woodhaven Middle School, where she has taught Grade 8/9 English, Social and Drama. Ms. Neumann has been very involved in the school community by co-coordinating the Health Days, the PACK program and being part of the Wellness Committee, as well as one of the directors and co-coordinator of the Drama fall and spring Showcases.

Ms. Neumann earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001, with a major focus of Drama. In 2004, Treena earned her Bachelor of Education with Distinction – after degree, both from the University of Alberta. In 2009, Treena was a semi-finalist for the Alberta Excellence in Teaching Award. Treena continues to support her belief in lifelong learning by participating in the Exploring Leadership course organized through Parkland School Division.

“I am very excited and honoured about my appointment as Assistant Principal at Woodhaven Middle School. I am thrilled to be working with such amazing staff members, students and parents. I am grateful and thankful for this new opportunity,” shared Ms. Neumann.

Shawna Stewart
Assistant Principal – Stony Plain Central School

Shawna Stewart, Assistant Principal – Stony Plain Central School

Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools Tim Monds is pleased to announce that Shawna Stewart has accepted the Assistant Principalship at Stony Plain Central School.

Mrs. Stewart first started teaching in Parkland School Division in 2000, working with the Learning Line (virtual school) program in École Broxton Park School. In 2001, she moved to the Wetaskiwin Regional School Division where she worked in a variety of roles focusing on special needs. In 2007, Shawna returned to Parkland School Division teaching at Greystone Centennial Middle School as a Middle Years teacher and then moved to École Broxton Park School as a special needs teacher. In September 2010, Shawna was seconded by the Learning Services Department in Parkland School Division as a Learning Coach to transition students from the Adapt Program at École Broxton Park School to their designated community schools.

Mrs. Stewart earned her Bachelor of Education-secondary route from the University of Alberta in 1998. She has had an extensive background working with students with special needs as well as working within the Aboriginal culture. Shawna continues to expand her knowledge by participating in programs such as Positive Behaviour Support Training (JACC) – Train the Trainer.

“I have enjoyed the experiences that I have had at Broxton and will miss the staff, students and families,” says Stewart. “I am excited and honoured to be joining the staff at Stony Plain Central School as an Assistant Principal. I look forward to building new relationships as we work to continue to provide exceptional opportunities for all of our students.”

Karen Wendel

Parkland School Division’s Superintendent of Schools Tim Monds is pleased to announce that Karen Wendel will continue in her role as Assistant Principal at Memorial Composite High School.

Karen has a diverse educational background. She received her Bachelor of Education degree specializing in Social Studies and French in 1984 and in 1988 received her Master of Education degree in Counselling Psychology. Karen’s continued desire to learn and grow has been demonstrated time and time again, most recently when she attended Parkland’s Leadership: Great Leaders, Great Teams, Great Results Covey training.

Karen began her career with Parkland in September, 1999 as a Counselor/Special Education Coordinator at Graminia Community School. In 2000, she transferred to Spruce Grove Composite High School where, in her role as counsellor, she was responsible for vocational, personal and crisis counseling for students in grades 10-12. She also monitored and assisted in educational planning and delivery for special education students. From September 2005 to October 2009, Karen was the Coordinator/Department Head at the Spruce Grove Composite High School Outreach program where in her leadership role, she worked with staff to support student learners and improve curriculum delivery. Karen has been acting in the role of Assistant Principal at Memorial Composite High School since the 2008/2009 school year.

In reflecting on her appointment as Assistant Principal, Karen states, “I greatly appreciate the opportunity to continue to be part of the leadership team at Memorial Composite High School. I look forward to further developing and articulating our MCHS culture.”
