Update November 24, 2011
Parkland School Division Board of Trustees hosted a very successful Stakeholder Consultation, November 17, 2011 at Brookwood School in Spruce Grove. Invitations went out to various stakeholder groups: School Councils, parents and students, ATA Local, service clubs, preschools and playschools, Chamber of Commerce, Alberta Education, etc. 36 participants braved the very lousy weather to see a presentation of the data that has been received by the Board, to review the data and to engage in some great discussion. Each table group submitted their responses to questions about how the Board should address the ongoing challenges of increasing student population and the shortage of classroom space in Spruce Grove.
In addition to the Stakeholder Consultation input the Board is considering all feedback that has been submitted (online, via email, from School Councils). There are four clear themes that have surfaced through the public feedback:
- Keep Spruce Grove Kindergarten students at Brookwood and Millgrove, do not move to Ecole Broxton Park
- Do not spend money on renovations at Ecole Broxton Park to accommodate a congregated Kindergarten site
- Add modular classrooms to Brookwood and Millgrove for the short-term
- Request a new K-9 school for Spruce Grove
As always PSD Trustees appreciate the questions, comments and suggestions offered to them as they strive to provide effective governance for our learning organization. The Board is scheduled to make decisions regarding the Spruce Grove situation at their Regular Meeting of the Board on November 29, 2011. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm at the Centre for Education, in Stony Plain and the public is welcome to attend.
