PARKLAND SCHOOL DIVISION

Common Questions

I'm new to the Division. What school will my child attend?

Based on the location of their primary residence, students are directed to a designated school. School designations can be obtained by calling our Student Transportation Department at (780) 963-8452. We ask that you have on hand your street address or, for rural parents, your legal land description.

My child has a special need? Whom do I call?

Your best source of information is your child's designated school. Working as a team, your child's teacher, the school principal, and/or school counselor can link you to special services available in our Division and community. If you are new to the Division, our Student Services staff can help you find the appropriate program and/or services for your child.

What age does my child have to be to enter Kindergarten?

A student entering Kindergarten must be five years of age by the last day of February of the year the child begins Kindergarten. For students enrolling in Grade 1, they must have turned six years of age by the last day of February the year they begin Grade 1.

When are your Board meetings and times?

Our Board of Trustees meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month during the school year. This public meeting is held at Parkland School Division's Centre for Education, 4603 - 48 Street, Stony Plain. A summary of the agenda is available to the public at each meeting. Our Board also hosts various committee meetings throughout the calendar year. For specific meetings and times please see Board and Committee Meetings.

How can I make a presentation to the Board of Trustees?

In addition to contacting Trustees individually, our Board welcomes presentations from community groups, parents, schools councils, and businesses on a wide variety of topics and issues. Public presentations can be scheduled at Trustees' monthly Board Meeting. To book a presentation, we ask that you send a written request, along with a copy of your presentation, at least five days in advance of the meeting to our Superintendent's Office at 4603-48 Street, Stony Plain, AB, T7Z 2A8. We will confirm your presentation time & date with you one week prior to the meeting.

Does Parkland offer French Immersion?

Yes! For parents who want their child to become bilingual in Canada's two official languages, we offer French Immersion Programming in two of our urban centres -  Town of Stony Plain and City of Spruce Grove. Each program is operated out of multiple track schools, which means French, English, and other programs run consecutively under one roof. To find out more, contact or drop by:
