Educational Research
Parkland's main focus for educational research falls under the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement
(AISI).
The goal of AISI is to improve student learning and performance by
fostering initiatives that reflect the unique needs and
circumstances within school jurisdictions. AISI initiatives fall
under one of three streams in our jurisdiction:
Collaborative Inquiry for Student Success (CISS)
This project involves the creation of collaborative teams within the
school, or within the division. These teams focus
their efforts on one or more of the following areas:
1. Achieving Parkland's Standards for Quality
Programming in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, SWOC, etc.
2. Student evaluation, assessment and reporting.
3. Using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
All schools within Parkland School Division are participating in this project.
Enhanced Learning for School Success (ELSS)
This project provides the opportunity for schools to develop
strategies that focus on increasing K-6 student success in literacy and numeracy.
Primarily the projects focus on:
1. Helping teachers develop strategies to better accommodate
students? individual differences.
2. Collaborating with parents and community partners to focus on
early intervention, literacy, numeracy, and special needs
programming.
The focus is on Grades K - 6, and involves 19 schools in Parkland
School Division.
Success for Secondary Students (Tri-S)
This project provides schools the opportunity to
initiate projects that address the identification and removal
of barriers to high school completion. The focus is on:
1. Increasing Parkland's student
high school
completion rates.
2. Ensuring that Parkland students have the knowledge, skills and
attitudes necessary to advance with confidence towards their next
life steps.

of a plan for success for their child.
