Sunrise Support
An estimated 10-15 percent of Alberta’s children and youth have special
needs. Of the 10-15%, approximately 1 percent have complex needs and
require significant extraordinary care due to their severity. The
service needs of some children and youth are complex and cannot be
easily addressed or delivered by a single service organization in
isolation from other service providers. Dealing with overlapping
issues, such as significant drug, alcohol, or behavioural/emotional
problems, requires a
holistic and multi-disciplinary team approach.
For students in significant jeopardy, Parkland works with
community agencies and families to individualize programming that
complements what is offered at a regular school or Outreach setting.
Through Sunrise Support, formalization of an integrated case
management model will be implemented for children and youth with
complex needs so that various
partners, local authorities, and service providers involved in the
child’s life work together to address the child’s and family’s
needs.
Referrals are facilitated by Parkland's Student Services staff.
