Student Medication
Parkland School Division acknowledges that the primary responsibility for administration of medications rests with the family and/or the appropriate medical personnel.  Whenever possible medication needs to be given at home.  However, it may be appropriate in certain circumstances for school staff to assist parents in the administration of medications to students.  In each of these cases, parents are required to have completed the appropriate paperwork (Request for Assistance to Administer Medication Form)  which includes written instructions and signatures of the parent and physician.  Forms are also available through the school office. If you have any questions regarding the distribution of medication to students please speak with your school Principal.

H1N1 Swine Flu Update - 01 October 2009
Alberta Health & Wellness issued a news release this morning indicating the World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its alert level of the H1N1 Swine Flu to Phase 6, declaring the outbreak of the H1N1 virus a pandemic. The WHO’s declaration does not indicate the severity of the disease, but the degree to which the disease has spread worldwide.

H1N1 Flu Virus - Prevention Tips

Help prevent the spread of influenza

  • Wash hands frequently, using soap and water, especially after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose. Use hand sanitizer if hands are not visibly dirty or if soap and water are not accessible.
  • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth after touching door handles and other surfaces that may harbour influenza and other viruses.
  • Cough or sneeze into your sleeve rather than your hand.
  • If ill, stay home from work and avoid public places.
  • Before travelling, check the Public Health Agency of Canada’s website at www.phac-aspc.gc.ca for up to date travel advisory information.

What to do if you think you have H1N1 influenza

  • Anyone with a fever, cough, or other flu-like symptoms, should call HealthLink Alberta for advice before visiting a health care provider’s office, drop-in clinic, or emergency department.
