Parent Partnership Grades 7-9

This Parent Partnership Program is a blended home-school education program of choice. Connections For Learning is responsible for the delivery of a portion of the Alberta curriculum, and Parents work through a modules-based system or use alternate materials to deliver other curriculum. Parents and Teachers work closely together to build success for children.

Changes are presently being made to Parent Partnership that better support Alberta Education’s Home Schooling regulations.

Attendance

Class attendance will be mandatory for two days a week in Grades 7-9 on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Curriculum

Literacy and Numeracy (Math and LA) instruction will occur on these “school days” under the guidance of 1-2 teachers. Some of these Math and LA skills will be practiced at home at the request of the teachers, but not necessarily through module work. Science and Social Studies modules will continue to be completed at home, and will be marked by parents at home (with a key) as part of the learning.

Assessment

Assessment continues to remain in the hands of our teachers.. Once a month, a student and parent will be required to attend an “assessment appointment” on a Friday. During that 30-60 minute time frame at CFL, the teachers will measure student progress by reviewing samples of the students' work and by observing students while they perform assessment tasks. There may be the review of home module work or a short quiz, and goals will be set for the next session. Module work will no longer be handed in to be marked by teachers, and assessment will involve students, parents and teachers in a true “partnership”. Three report cards will continue to be completed by the teachers based on evidence seen in classwork and these assessment reviews.

Planning

A home-school plan is completed by the parent for each student in consultation with the teachers, to be done by the third week of September. A template is available on our website.
