Are you wondering about what a school council is? Or how you can be involved? When does the Muir Lake School council meet?
A school council is made up of partnership between parents from the school community, the school administration, as well as teachers from the school. On occasion it can also include students from the school.
To become involved just come to the council meetings. The meetings are held on the second teaching Monday of each month beginning at 7pm. On average the time commitment is between an hour and an hour and a half. The meetings are advertised in our monthly newsletters (both paper copies and emailed version) and also reside on the school website calendar. We endeavour to give notice to any changed dates.
The purpose of school council is to provide the school with feedback on how we are doing, and gives advice in regards to functionality for students. In Muir Lake each grade has a representative parent that comes to the council to advocate for a grade in particular. Parents that are not grade representatives are always welcome. The more voices the better. The school council also looks after fundraising activities for the school as well, suggesting items needed, and is also looking at requests from the school for the types of fundraising we are going to be involved in.
The School Council is also an active member of the Alberta School Council Association. Through this membership, our school council ensures that the voice of our school community is heard on a provincial level.
