Frequently Asked Questions

Absences & Late Attendance
Being in class, on time and ready to learn, is one of the most important keys to success in school. In the event that a student is absent, a parent should call 962-2626. Students are not to call in their own absences.

If an absence is not called in a note explaining the absence is to be brought to the attendance office before school begins upon the students return. The following information should be included in either the phone message or note: student name, reason for absence, date of absence and relationship to the student.

Attendance Policy
When attendance is below 90% learning suffers dramatically.
Students need to be in class to learn.
Help your child to be in school.

Inclement Weather
During extremely cold or wet weather, students will remain indoors during recess and lunch break.

School will not be closed unless specific information is broadcasted on local radio stations.

Personal Property and Money
The school is not responsible for a student's personal property.
We request that all school supplies, lunch kits, footwear, and outer clothing be marked with the child's name prior to sending them to school.
Money can easily be misplaced or lost. We ask that children bring money to school in a sealed envelope identified with the student's name, teacher's name and use for the money. Make all cheques payable to:

Telephone Calls
Disrupting classes cuts into the teaching time for our students and also uses up secretarial time. Please keep your calls to a minimum. Except for unforeseen emergencies make your arrangements before the start of the day.

Vacations During the School Year
If you are planning on taking a vacation or you need to take your child out of school for an extended time please inform the school office before you leave.
Parkland School Division #70 requires a "Parent Request To Excuse Student From Attendance At School" form to filled out each time a student will be absent.

Woodhaven Middle School Dress Code
For girls, tops must cover the shoulders, from the neck to the top of the arm, and must have a neckline that does not expose cleavage.
Tops must be long enough to prevent the exposure of the midriff; the exception would be when a student raises their arms in the normal day-to-day routine, in which case some midriff may be exposed. Shorts & skirts must be within 12cm from the knee cap.

For boys, no muscle shirts.

Suggestive wording on clothing which includes double entendre (double meaning) cannot be worn in the building.

Hats off ! Bandanas off !

Students are expected to comply with the rules. DO RIGHT! This is your work place.
