The Parkland School Division has one Temporary Full-time (1.0 FTE) Computer Technician position available at our Centre of Education in Stony Plain working in the Technology Services Department.

The successful candidate will assist in imaging, configuration and deployment of laptops, desktops, monitors and iPads.  Tasks will also include mounting replacement of Wireless Access points throughtout Parkland School Division's various sites.  You will also troubleshoot to identify and isolate problems to facilitate repair of computer hardware and operating systems. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 with a post-secondary education in a computer technical services program or equivalency preferred or currently enrolled in a post-secondary computer program.
  • Comp TIA A+, MTA –IT infrastructure, MCSA Windows 8/10 or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience Chromebook management, Google Apps for Education, Mac OS and iOS support would be an asset.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator’s license 

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours /week  (Monday-Friday) 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Pay Rate: 26.84/hr

This position requires an original copy of a current clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector and an original copy of a child intervention record check.

This position is covered by the Central Alberta Association for Municipal and School Employees Collective Agreement.

The provisions of the Collective Agreement apply to Temporary Employees, except the following listed in Article 2.05 (Probationary Period, Seniority, Layoff and Recall, Discipline and Dismissal, Grievance Procedure, Arbitration, Sick Leave, Leave of Absence, Health Plan Benefits, Local Authorities Pension Plan).

Duties:

Qualifications:

Minimum Grade 12 must be attending or will be attending within the next (4) months a post-secondary institution

Valid Class 5 license with clean driver’s abstract

Ability to lift, push or pull 40-50 lbs

Experience working with mowers, weed trimmers, etc, will be an asset

This position is covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 955

Hours of Work: 40.0 hours /week  (Monday-Friday) 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Pay Rate: 15.69/hr

The Parkland School Division has openings for Casual Caretakers and we are accepting resumes for Casual Caretakers. Successful applicants to this posting will be required to be available to accept casual assignments across the Division and be available any time during the day or evening.

Function and Purpose of Position
A Casual Caretaker is a detailed-oriented individual who is focused on the cleanliness of the school/location including internal and external areas. Ensuring the premises are clean, tidy and prepared for the students, staff and general public is essential. 

Casual Caretakers may:
Reports to the Supervisor of Environmental Services
Works under the guidance of the Head Caretaker, where applicable.
Works independently and as part of the school community
Works with assigned duties by Principal on an as needed basis

Service Responsibilities
Completion of all custodial duties including the following: 
Cleaning classrooms and hallways by wet- and dry-mopping.  May use an auto-scrubber.
Disinfect desk tops and major touch points (door handles, light switches, etc.).
Empty trash, replace liner and wash container as needed.
Dust flat and vertical surfaces, clean glass and spot clean walls.
Removing and replacing furniture from classrooms in order to do cleaning.
Burnishing hallways and classrooms using a burnisher on a scheduled basis.
Stripping and scrubbing floors using swing buffing machine.
Recoating floors.
Vacuuming carpets.
Replacing lights as required.
Completing security checks on the building’s exterior doors and windows.
Sanitizing washrooms daily. Replacing soap and toilet tissue as required.
Placing garbage in dumpsters.
Removing snow from all perimeter sidewalks and entry areas using shovels, brooms or powered snow removal equipment.
De-icing walk areas as required.
Maintaining equipment in a clean, safe, operating condition.
Conducting perimeter checks to ensure the exterior building site and playground area are safe and vandal-free on a daily basis.
Attending to emergencies when necessary.
Attending safety meetings.
Performing other duties as assigned by the Head Caretaker.

Additional seasonal cleaning and rotational duties include the following:

Cleaning out lockers, washing and disinfecting as required.
Cleaning windows inside and out. 
Cleaning light fixtures and diffusers.
Scrubbing walls, cleaning grout for ceramic tile and ceilings in some areas.
Moving furniture to prepare for floor cleaning.
Stripping and recoating floors.
Burnishing and polishing floors.
Cleaning desks, inside and out.
Cleaning baseboards and the edge of floors.
Moving desks and tables for examination purposes at least twice per year.
Ability to work flexible hours/schedule during holiday periods and annual cleaning schedules.
Skilled in the use of a variety of equipment: vacuum cleaners, scrubbers, polishers, wet vacuums and other related equipment.
Ability to plan and prioritize work for self and seek help when needed.
Provide support when necessary to Head Caretaker to prepare for summer cleaning schedule.
Will also be responsible for snow removal in the winter.
Help with the relocation of furniture and equipment as requested by the Principal and Head Caretaker, as needed

Knowledgeable in PSDs safety procedures and training to carry out the assigned duties safely
Report any near misses or accidents immediately to the Supervisor of Environmental Services
Able to identify any hazards involved in the assigned task, detail the controls that must be put in place and articulates the specific practices to be followed to minimize the possibility of accidents and injury
Monitoring the physical condition of equipment, tools and machinery and taking necessary precautions to correct as needed
Comply with Occupation Health and Safety standards and practices

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Task specific PPE is required
Clothing must be appropriate for assigned task i.e. no torn or ragged clothing
Other additional PPE may include footwear, gloves, etc.

The successful candidate will be expected to work during the day on all non-instructional days

Education and Experience

a) Education:
i) High School Diploma
ii) WHMIS Certificate an asset
iii) First Aid/CPR Certificate an asset
iv) Building Service Work Certificate an asset

b) Experience:
i) 1 - 2 years of related experience.
ii) Experience with Microsoft Word, Email and Internet Computer Applications are required

Physical Demands

A Casual Caretaker will be required to routinely lift items weighting up to 20 lbs. Sometimes, heavier lifting may be required.

Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment

Inherent risk of work:

There are inherent risks in the work employees do throughout The Parkland School Division (PSD). All staff are to be prepared to satisfactorily manage the inherent risks encountered in their work.  PSD makes staff aware of known risks before assignments are assigned, and PSD provides any necessary training to be successful in alleviating any potential risk.  Staff are responsible for advising their Superiors (Principal/Director/Manager/Supervisor) of unknown risks encountered relating directly to their work.
Staff may be injured by a student as student behaviour can be somewhat unpredictable at times. The specific needs of students are not always known and the student may become aggressive, which has the potential for causing injury to others.  For a student with an Individual Program Plan (IPP), staff should also advise the teacher assigned to oversee the IPP of unknown risks encountered.  Any plans for working with students who may show aggression whether an IPP or other plan, are evolving plans which may change over time to meet the needs of a particular student at a PSD school.
Staff are expected to cooperate in ensuring workplace health and safety in a caring and respectful educational setting.

General Qualifications:
• Level 1 Childcare Certificate or equivalence is required
• Education Assistant Certificate would be an asset
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
• First Aid/CPR Certificates would be an asset

• Experience working with children who demonstrate challenging behaviors, communication delays and autism spectrum disorders

Given the diversity of students in schools, there are functional abilities related to physical management that a Casual Education Assistant may require. The functional abilities areas are:

Sufficient Mobility and Flexibility:
• to work with students in a variety of positions (i.e. sit on chair or floor, kneel, stand, bend or reach to assist)
• to walk easily, maneuver stairs and move from one position or place to another with sufficient ease to respond to student need in a timely manner.
• to participate in safety and control positions (i.e. restraint as per NVCI)
• to assist individuals with walking (e.g. holding their hand, stabilizing them, guiding on the stairs)
• to use appropriate mobility equipment (e.g. transfer belt, push wheelchair, stabilizing and supporting use of walker, assist with use of walker)
• to assist with personal care (i.e. toileting, feeding, dressing)

Sufficient Manual Dexterity:
• to manipulate assistive devices (e.g. insulin pumps, hearing aids, braces, feeding tubes, dressing fasteners, fasten seat belts, etc.)

Sufficient stamina:
• to be able to participate and support programming for active children when assigned.
• to provide active supervision and support with students in typical school related physical activities for full work hours (including gym, playground equipment, track and field)
• to be able to work in a variety of environments and conditions (e.g. swimming, playground equipment, community facilities)

Sufficient strength:
• to lift objects up to 50 lbs
• to participate in one to two person lifts depending upon the weight of student
• to carry, lift and maneuver adaptive equipment (e.g. standing framer, change table, toilet seats, commode, sensory equipment, lifts, mats,)
• to assist with student transfers (i.e. floor-chair, chair, standing, sit, standing transfers as needed per weight of student)
